Did you know that almost everything we do these days generates a carbon footprint? Transportation and manufacturing and almost anything that uses electricity requires the burning of a fossil fuel (coal, oil and gas) to generate energy, and as bi-product carbon dioxide, a green house gas, is released to the atmosphere.
In order to help, we need to make a commitment to change the way we live, and to realize that every small thing we do has an impact on the environment. The question is: How do we become more responsible citizens? At R&S we believe that the first step is education and though programs like Eco-Audit we encourage our students and citizens to take positive action in conserving resources and protecting our environment.
Initiated by JGI-Shanghai Roots & Shoots in 2006, the Eco-Audit Program provides a new perspective on environmental education and what a “green” lifestyle is. The Eco-Audit Program trains local high school and university student R&S groups on how to perform an environmental audit to help office employees, students and their own families and communities reduce waste while raising environmental awareness.
To date, we have trained over 2,000 students, who have audited over 160 companies in Shanghai, spreading their environmental knowledge, enthuasiasm and message that every action counts!
